Brakes
Brake systems include two components, friction and hydraulic systems. The entire brake system should be inspected "R" annually.
Friction material "N" (brake pads & brake shoes) will last 20 to 50,000 miles depending on how the vehicle is operated. In many cases the driver will receive a warning that this component requires replacement through a noise (squeaking) or a grinding feeling when the brakes are applied.
Hydraulic system "N" (brake lines, brake fluid, calipers, cylinders, brake pedal) must also be operating properly. Annual inspection "R" of this system with fluid replacement is appropriate. Any changes noticed by the driver (higher or lower brake pedal or delay in stopping time) should be brought to your service providers attention.
