Electrical
Many vehicles now have numerous systems that are monitored or controlled by computers. Dashboards, power windows, power seats, ABS Brake systems and lighting are just a few places where electrical current is either sending power or transmitting information back to the on board computers. Fuses, located usually in the dashboard area of most vehicles, control the safety of these electrical circuits.
The Battery is the power station that provides the initial source of electrical current. The battery should be "R" visually inspected every 90 days for exterior case damage, corrosion and condition of the battery cables. The batterys power can be tested "R" by your service provider annually. Generally, batteries will last 3-5 years under normal operating conditions.
An alternator acts as a recharging station on the vehicle. After the vehicle is started the engine turns a belt (s) that allow the alternator to generate power back to the battery. The belt (s) need "R" to be inspected every 90 days for cracks, tears or miss-alignment. Any of these conditions require "N" immediate replacement. Belts should be replaced every 30-35,000 miles.
All exterior and interior lighting must be replaced immediately. Headlights, signal bulbs and brake lights are considered "N" repairs. They should be inspected frequently.
