Radiator - Engine Cooling System

The majority of vehicle engines on the road today are air-cooled.  This is accomplished by allowing air to blow over tubes (radiator) filled with water or antifreeze mixture.  This mixture is then circulated throughout the engine itself.

It is "
R" that the coolant level be checked no less than twice each year.  At the same time the coolant fluid should be checked for maximum and minimum temperature tolerances.  This fluid needs to be able to withstand temperatures below freezing and in excess of 120 degrees depending on the time of year and driving conditions.

The
hoses that connect the radiator to the engine should be "R" inspected for cracking or bulging at least twice each year.  The greatest cause for vehicle failure on the road is due to the loss of cooling fluid due to a hose break.  These hose should be replaced every 50,000 miles.
